NGO COALITION: SPAJIC TO STATE IF THE GOVERNMENT OF MONTENEGRO PROPOSES AMENDMENTS ON THE RESOLUTION ON SREBRENICA

In a letter sent today to Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, the coalition of NGOs demanded from the PM to publicly declare whether the Government of Montenegro is proposing amendments to the draft UN Resolution on Srebrenica or not, and if so, to publish and explain the text of those amendments with arguments.

It is unacceptable in a serious democratic state that, at the same time, the Minister of Foreign Affairs from the Prime minister’s party (Movement Europe now!) rejects the media’s claims about the amendments as unofficial information, and that, on the other hand, a member of parliament from the same party speaks of them as a done deal.

In particular, we requested from the PM Spajić to also announce whether Montenegro will co-sponsor the resolution on Srebrenica or not, and if not, why not, and whether, in any way, Montenegro’s vote on the resolution is called into question in case the amendments are not adopted.

We informed the PM as well that to date a total of 106 NGOs and 380 citizens of Montenegro, most of whom are public figures, had supported the initiative for Montenegro to co-sponsor the UN resolution, considering such action a worthy expression of respect for the victims of the Srebrenica genocide and a responsible attitude towards the future.
