Chief of Communal Police of Nikšić Indicted for Unauthorised Use of Personal Data of a Female Environmental Activist

The Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Nikšić has filed an indictment against the chief of communal police of Nikšić, Veselin Čurović, for the commission of the criminal offence of unauthorised collection and use of personal data under Article 176, paragraph 4 in connection with paragraph 1 of the same Article of the Criminal Code of Montenegro. The injured party is Ivana Čogurić, activist of “Ecopatriotism”, the first female environmental movement in the country.

Ivana Čogurić filed a criminal report because the communal police had given her telephone number to the person she had reported for unlawfully dumping waste in the bed of river Gračanica.

The beginning of the trial, to be held before the Basic Court in Nikšić, is scheduled for 16 May.

The Human Rights Action (HRA) has been able to provide Ivana Čogorić with free legal aid thanks to the financial support of the foundation Sigrid Rausing Trust.
