02/02/2024TRIAL FOR THE ATTACK ON CIVIL ACTIVIST BOŠKO PAVIĆEVIĆ BEGINS IN NIKŠIĆ
The trial of two defendants accused of inflicting serious bodily injuries on Boško Pavićević, a civic activist from Nikšić who confronted vandals in the night between 2 and 3 December last year, began yesterday at the Basic Court in Nikšić. The sitting judge is Mirko Kojović.
The defendants are cousins Miloš (19) and Matija (18) Stanišić, who knocked Pavićević to the ground by hitting him in the head. Once they did this, they continued to hit him, ending up breaking his jaw.
Prior to the attack, Pavićević warned a group of teenagers not to pick flowers from the Freedom Square in Nikšić and not to park their cars there as the square is a pedestrian zone. When the teenagers continued with the above described behavior, he started filming them using his telephone. The two defendants then beat him and broke his jaw, while Duško Radojičić, who was in the company of Pavićević, was also knocked to the ground with a blow to the head.
All the witnesses and defendants were heard at the beginning of the trial. The footage of the incident will be viewed when the trial continues, namely on Monday, and the expert will additionally testify about the inflicted injuries.
This is a positive example of swift scheduling of a criminal trial, which, scheduled in this way, could be completed with great efficiency.
However, the opinion of the competent state prosecutor from the Basic State Prosecutor’s Office in Nikšić, Dejan Djordjević, to drop the charges against the defendants for the criminal offence of ‘violent behaviour’ committed against Boško Pavićević and Dušan Radojičić (who was in Pavićević’s company) because, according to the findings of the expert, “the blow that Radojičić received does not constitute an injury”, is a cause for concern.
Attorney Dalibor Tomović, who represents Pavićević, asked that the state prosecutor decide on this matter in the form of a decision, which could then be appealed to the higher prosecutor’s office.
Boško Pavićević acted as a responsible citizen and activist, for which he paid a high price in the form of serious bodily injury. As a sign of solidarity, and thanks to the support of the Sigrid Rausing Trust, the Human Rights Action is providing him with free legal aid.
