NGO Human Rights Action participated in the commemoration of two sad anniversaries – 24 years of unpunished war crime “Deportation” of refugees from 1992 and the 12th anniversary of the unsolved murder of director and chief editor of the newspaper Dan, Duško Jovanović from 2004. State authorities have failed to investigate and punish perpetrators of both crimes.

HRA published a report “Unsolved murder of Duško Jovanović – questions without answers” in order to investigate a comprehensive review of the investigation of this case to date. HRA submitted the report to the Supreme State Prosecutor, Mr. Ivica Stanković and Minister of Interior Affairs Mr. Goran Danilović.

The report stressed the questions about deficiencies in the investigation to which the public has not received answers. HRA recommended hiring a foreign expert for investigation of the assassination, who would impartially review whether all reasonable steps were taken in this investigation and, if not, to recommend further steps required.

Such an expert or specialist could cooperate with the future Commission for monitoring action of competent authorities in the investigation of cases of threats and violence against journalists, assassinations of journalists and attacks on media property.
