Human Rights Action welcomes the efforts of the Capital city to provide alternative housing for the family Sejdović, whose barracks were demolished today in Podgorica, where they lived for more than 40 years. Sejdović family, consisting of mother, her three sons, daughter in law and her two young children, one of which is less than six months old, were moved to a trailer in Konik camp.

In this manner, the international standard was applied, according to which the result of eviction should not be homeless people – in cases where the evicted have no other place to stay, the State is obliged to take measures and provide adequate alternative housing.

We hope that this example will serve as a future pattern for competent bodies in cases of forced evictions, and that the families in the village Zverinjak in Nikšić, where there are also children, elderly and disabled persons, will be provided with the human right to adequate housing in a similar manner.
