Human Rights Action demanded from the Council for Civic Control of the Police, on 28 June 2010, to assess the use of police authority regarding the investigation and assessment of 25 June 2010 attack on the son of Mr. Nebojsa Medojevic, leader of the opposition party Movement for Change, in Podgorica. We particularly requested the Council to assess the Police Directorate public announcement that the attack “had no political background,” and that the perpetrators “did not know whose son they were attacking”, as HRA considered such statements an example of unprofessional conduct, casting serious doubt on independence and impartiality of the police. In its findings, the Council for Civic Control of the Police affirmed that the Police Directorate statement “was inconsistent with the authority and factual context in the part clarifying the motives of the event.”
