16/07/2010 HRA submitted today 14 amendments to the Bill of Law against Discrimination to the President of the Parliament and Heads of the MP Clubs

Human Rights Action participated in a public hearing on the Draft Law on Protection against Discrimination and submitted to the Ministry for human and minority rights a number of objections to the provisions of the Draft, out of which a significant number has been adopted in the Bill.

However, as the Bill did not include all the comments we consider necessary for effective protection against discrimination, our proposed 14 amendments today we submitted to the President of the Parliament and Heads of the MP Clubs, hoping that they will consider them and recommend their adoption so that the Law would ensure the protection at the level of international standards and similar laws in the region. We draw particular attention to the necessary amendment of the authority of the Ombudsman ( Article 8 ) and provisions which prescribe offenses ( Article 31 ).

We submitted proposed amendments to the members of the Committee for Human Rights and Freedoms on 23 June 2010.
