20/1/2016 – THE SUPREME STATE PROSECUTOR TO DETERMINE RESPONSIBILITY FOR INEFFICIENT INVESTIGATION OF ATTEMPTED MURDER OF JOURNALIST TUFIK SOFTIĆ

The investigation against three persons for attempted murder of Montenegrin journalist Tufik Softić in November 2007 has been terminated in October 2015 without results.

Softić’s legal representative, Attorney at Law Dalibor Tomović, and HRA Executive Director, Tea Gorjanc Prelević, informed the Supreme State Prosecutor Ivica Stanković of failures in the investigation that rendered it ineffective and finally led to its termination. They urged Stanković to ensure that responsibility is determined of state officers who were in charge of this investigation and failed to execute it effectively. The letter (in English) is available here. The original (in Montenegrin) is available here.

In addition to this case, when Softic was heavily beaten in front of his family home, there was another incident in August 2013 when explosive device was put in front of his home, but that luckily did not hurt anyone. The investigation of that case also did not produce any results.

Tufik Softic has been reporting on the activities of the criminal gang members from the north of Montenegro.

Media Legal Defence Initiative from London is supporting legal representation of Tufik Softić. His attorney recently filed a constitutional complaint due to ineffective investigation and will also file civil suit for damages.
