05/ 03/ 2013 HRA proposed an addition to the Activity Plan of the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights and Freedoms

Human Rights Action – HRA suggested to the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights and Freedoms to supplement its Activity Plan for 2013, as soon as possible, with a session focused specifically on the assessment of the role of the prosecution regarding the human rights protection. In the letter addressed to the Committee’s president Mr. Halil Duković, HRA reminded on findings of the European Commission, published in 2012 Progress Report on Montenegro that “the human rights role of the state prosecutor remains limited”. This should raise concerns of all MPs considering that the protection of human rights and freedoms is one of the main tasks of the state prosecution.HRA believes that this upsetting assessment may also be applied to the period following the October 2012, when the European Commission published its findings, especially regarding the affair “Audio-record” and other, still ineffectively investigated cases of human rights violations in Montenegro – especially cases of violence against the journalists, and ill-treatment and torture by civil servants.
