28/10/2014 – PRESS RELEASE REGARDING CONTINUATION OF PUBLISHING OF PORNOGRAPHIC MATERIAL IN DAILY INFORMER

Daily Informer continued on 27 October and 28 October 2014 to publish pornographic material with the aim of discrediting the Executive director of the Network for Affirmation of NGO Sector (MANS), Ms Vanja Ćalović.

HRA strongly condemns such a cheap campaign against the prominent activist in the fight against corruption and organized crime.

Pornographic content of articles published in daily Informer in the last two days is not protected by freedom of expression, and is not of legitimate public interest in a democratic society.

With regard to distribution of this daily, HRA sent yesterday a letter to the Supreme State Prosecutor Ivica Stanković, due to large-scale commission of the offense referred to in Article 211, paragraph 1, of the Criminal Code of Montenegro, which prohibits selling and public displaying of pornographic content to children. The prescribed sentence for this offence is between six months and five years of prison. We expect the Supreme State Prosecutor to inform the public of all actions taken in this regard.

Unfortunately, just like it was the practice in June this year, Informer published pornographic content on its cover page making it easily accessible to children, especially as it is located in an easily accessible place in the stores and is not sold in a blank envelope as such pornographic content is usually sold in other countries of Europe.
