10/12/2015 – ANNOUNCEMENT OF VISIT TO NURSING HOME „GRABOVAC“ IN RISAN

On the Human Rights Day, Human Rights Action (HRA) reminds of the human rights of older persons and the need for their protection. Older persons are often subject to discrimination on various grounds, poverty, domestic violence and financial exploitation.

The number of older persons in the world’s population is rapidly increasing. It is expected that the number of people older than 65 years in the EU and Montenegro will double from 87.5 million in 2010 to 152.5 million in 2060 (MONSTAT), which will lead to doubling the dependency ratio of people older than 65 years with respect to those aged between 15 and 64.

HRA will visit the Nursing Home „Grabovac“ in Risan on Friday, 11 December 2015. We will speak with the residents about their needs, experiences, and human rights.

Nursing Home „Grabovac“ in Risan exists as a public institution as of 1947. Until 2010, when the PI Nursing Home Bijelo Polje was opened, this was the only state-owned nursing home for older people.
