2/7/2015 – DISCUSSION ON THE NEED TO AMEND THE MEDIA ACT HELD

A discussion on the need to amend the Media Act has been organized by NGO Human Rights Action, with the support of the Australian Embassy.

The audience was addressed by ministers Zoran Pažin and Pavle Goranović, the Australian ambassador, H.E. Julia Fini, Tea Gorjanc Prelević, HRA Executive director and members of the working group that proposed the amendments to the Media Act: Azra Jasavić, Pozitivna Crna Gora MP, Dragoljub Duško Vuković, journalist and media analyst, Jadranka Vojvodić, Deputy Director of the Agency for Electronic Media and Goran Đurović, member of the RTCG Council and the President of the Managing Board of the Coalition of NGOs Saradnjom do cilja.

Following an extensive discussion, the conclusion was that the working group will list numerous supported reasons for amendments to the Media Act, which has not been amended for 13 years since its adoption, that it will initiate the consultative hearings before the Parliament with the Minister of Culture, in order to create formal gap analysis of the legal framework for the media, after which, hopefully, a working group for drafting the amendments to the Act will be established.
