06/04/2012 Press release regarding the situation in the Public Institution “Komanski most”

Regarding the situation in “Komanski most” Institution HRA executive director on behalf of NGO monitoring team – consisting, besides HRA, of Centre for Civic Education, Centre for Antidiscrimination EQUISTA, and Women’s Safe House – sent a letter to Mr. Suad Numanović, Minister of Labour and Social Welfare, Mr. Miodrag Radunović, Minister of Health, and Mr. Vaselj Dušaj, Director of the Public Institution “Komanski most”.

The letter contains observations and conclusions on the flu epidemic in the Institution “Komanski most” and on fulfillment of the recommendations of the report on respect of the rights of residents.

Regarding the flu epidemic it was noted that even though Health Institute of Montenegro recommended vaccination against influenza for all citizens, especially those at risk of complications, “Komanski most” Institution did not request permission of residents’ parents to carry out vaccination. At the same time residents who have been under direct guardianship of the state i.e. centers for social work were not vaccinated either. We propose to the relevant ministries to make an obligatory instruction on health care of “Komanski most” residents which would ensure timely fulfillment of immunization requirements and improve overall health care in the future.

It was assessed that 14 recommendations from the report on respect of rights of “Komanski most” residents, accepted by the relevant ministry and the Institute management on the round table discussion held on November 14, 2011, was not fulfilled. (Recommendations in English language are available at https://www.hraction.org/wp-content/uploads/Recommendations-with-the-report-_EN.pdf )

The session of the Parliamentary Committee for Human Rights and Freedoms, scheduled for Thursday, April 11, 2012 will be an opportunity to discuss these issues.

The letter in Montenegrin language available here.
